From time to time reptiles are handed to the society from a rescue group, police, National Parks, members of the public or other AKL holders. They cannot be released and therefore must go into care.
If you are interested in taking one of these animals into permanent care, you are welcome to put your name on our "Wish List". Whilst preference will be given to Herpetological Society members, you do not need to be a member to put your name on the list. However, you must hold a current Animal Keepers Licence (AKL) appropriate to the species you are requesting, and you must have appropriate housing to be able to care for the reptile you receive. There is also no guarantee you will receive a reptile by this method.
If you are looking to purchase or sell a reptile or amphibian then please use our Reptile Exchange List. (You must be a member of the society and be licensed with NPWS to advertise or acquire reptiles and amphibians this way). Click here to inquire about the Reptile Exchange List.
